The Board of the Common Sense Club issued this statement after the smear-campaign against the organization launched by a so-called “report” this week.
We are incensed at the baseless and politically motivated attacks leveled against our organization and our donors and members. The Common Sense Club exists to save our state from Left Wing Lunacy and the weak and self-serving elites on the right. Since our founding, we have given voice to New Jersey’s Common Sense Majority and activated citizens across the state who had previously been silenced or ignored by the radical elitists in Trenton.
We are deeply saddened that our donors and members have been exposed and dragged through the mud. This is something they never expected or signed up for.
Common Sense Club was founded by Bill Spadea in 2021, and operated for three years before he launched his campaign for Governor. During that time, we crisscrossed the state, hosting hundreds of events that gave a voice and home to countless disaffected Common Sense New Jerseyans tired of being ignored by their so-called leaders. When our founder decided to run for Governor, he stepped down as President and was replaced by Elizabeth Nader who has led the organization since. As a result of our founder launching his campaign, we were compelled by law to comply with ELEC guidelines, requiring that we disclose financial and donor information. These developments were outside of our control, but we followed the law and were fully transparent. This transparency is now being weaponized.
We pride ourselves in our integrity and in speaking truth in all situations, so we are compelled to address and correct the lies that have been told about our organization.
- Lie: The “report” claims our founder was paid from “campaign donations” and repeatedly and confusingly refers to Common Sense Club both as “campaign” and a “PAC.”
Fact: We are not a campaign or a PAC. We are a 501(c)4 nonprofit organization.
- Lie: Our founder “paid himself” while a candidate for Governor.
Fact: All the transactions referenced in the “report” occurred when our founder was the President of our organization and not yet a candidate for Governor.
- Lie: Our founder “paid himself” $6,000 per week through “BillSpadea.com LLC”.
Fact: BillSpadea.com LLC was the production company that paid the engineers, staff, and production costs for our founder’s podcast. The Common Sense Club was a sponsor of the podcast and gained exposure to hundreds of thousands of New Jerseyans to share our message of Common Sense. And the payments were monthly, not weekly.
- Lie: No BS Marketing is a company owned by our founder.
Fact: BS Marketing is a company formed in Utah. If any “news” source bothered to spend two minutes doing a public records search, it would have found out that Bill Spadea has no affiliation with the company. Let us say it again: other than sharing the initials BS, Bill Spadea does not own it or any part of it, either directly or through another entity.
- Lie: “Political donations”
Fact: Our donors are not political donors. We are a 501(c)4 organization.
The Common Sense Club will continue to be a voice for the Common Sense Majority, regardless of these political attacks.
Members of the Common Sense Club made the following statements.
“This week, the foolish establishment chose once again to spread salacious lies about Common Sense Club and its founder. It is a clear snapshot of why the Republican Party is so impotent in New Jersey. Any Republican that gets elected has to submit to the Left just so they can wet their beaks. I joined the Common Sense Club because I was tired of all of this and just wanted to hear the truth spoken out loud and without fear. I believe 100% to this day in exactly what the Club was created for. The Common Sense Club has been involved across the state of New Jersey activating the Common Sense Majority against the madness of our politics. I am grateful for a Common Sense Club to give voice to reason. We need it now more than ever. The reason why people are spending so much time lying and smearing this organization is because they are deathly afraid of what happened last November and what is coming on June 10th.” – Sean Mabey, Donor/Member
“As a lifelong New Jerseyan, I am fed up with the out-of-control spending and erosion of my rights. Long time Left-Wing control has destroyed our state. Inefficiency from the Republican party has contributed to its destruction. The Common Sense Club is a breath of fresh air – an organization that speaks truth and calls out the lunacy of the left and complacency of the right. I joined early and I’m still 100% in! This powerful organization is a nightmare for the Left and the “old school” establishment-elite Republican party who never fight and strive for mediocrity to salvage their own status. The thing both the Left and Republican establishment fear? Common sense. It upsets the status quo that they cling to. Driven by the fear of common sense and what might happen if the Common Sense Majority was fully unleashed, they lie every chance they get to confuse the public. Enough! Over the last week these lies have hit an all-time high. Disgraceful. The Common Sense Club will continue to stay the course, and I’m proud to be a member. Good wins over evil every time.” – Tommy Hudanish, Donor/Member
“Back in 2021, after the nightmare of COVID-19 was coming to an end, I realized I lived in possibly the most radically left state in the nation. When I was invited to learn about the Common Sense Club I was excited to hear what our founder had to say about bringing some common sense back to the state that I love! The fresh ideas put forth were exciting and the entire concept of the Common Sense Club was very inviting and I immediately joined this wonderful 501(c)4 as a member. I was inspired by the promise to enlighten the good people of New Jersey that conservative values, parental rights and overall common sense were not a thing of the past. We have the opportunity to educate and support like-minded people brave enough to go up against the liberal left and the establishment politicians who were right there with them in this corrupt state. I am grateful to be a founding member of such an amazing organization. I find it very unfortunate that the past few weeks, the establishment uniparty candidates and their campaign teams found it necessary to attack this organization with lie after lie. At this time, when it is most important for the people of NJ to use some common sense and not give up on our state, this has to stop….” – Karen Arakelian, Donor/Member
